Wellspring has a 32 year history of offering classes in the
Iyengar tradition, a style characterized by skillful attention
to detail in every pose, use of props, and focus on body alignment.
Your teacher will mindfully help you optimize your practice.

 

Viniyoga highlights careful sequencing of breath-inspired movement,
with attention given to the understanding that every body is different
every day. Nourish strengthen and renew your body, while deepening your pranayam
practice and calming the mind. Classes will include anatomically correct
asana instruction and pranayama, and may include meditation techniques,
chanting, ritual, and the study of the yoga sutra (watch for class descriptions)
While classes can be varied and range from a very gentle preparation for mediation,
to a full body workout, all classes emphasize mobilizing the spine 
and coordinating movement with breath.

Kundalini is an "uplifting blend of spiritual and physical practices, 
Kundalini Yoga incorporates movement, dynamic breathing techniques,

    Breath inspired movement - combined with repetition and stay to create a therapeutic experience for each student. "We are not in class to serve the postures - the postures are tools that individuals can use to nourish the body and calm the mind".
    This mixed level class is appropriate for beginners to advanced students wanting a full yoga experience without the worries of not being able to keep up! Everybody is different every day!

      Susan is a longtime practitioner of yoga and has been a teacher for over 10 years. She completed her 500-hour training with Gary Kraftsow and the American Viniyoga Institute.

      For the past eight years Susan has been teaching in Durango, Colorado. Her well-loved classes include the early morning basics class, strengthening and therapeutic classes for folks training for the Iron Horse Bike classic, classes aimed at keeping aging athletes in their sports, and deep relaxation classes for the end of a busy work week. She also teaches specific Pranayama classes, Mindfulness and Meditation classes, Change Management workshops and she offers study groups to discuss the Yoga Sutra.

      Susan first came to yoga 35+ years ago to find relief from a severe scoliosis, aggravated by an injury. Realizing the amazing difference in her quality of life between times when she was dedicated to her practice and times when she let it drift, Susan committed to a daily practice and lifelong study. As many have learned, the physical practice leads to the understanding that Yoga offers so much more. Yoga is the “union” or link between the source of energy and the materiality –  the mind and body; an ancient philosophy that can lead to greater health, vitality and peace of mind – if you practice!

Specializing in vegetarian and vegan cuisine, Sharon studied nutrition, worked as a counselor for Jenny Craig Weight Loss Centres, and owned a restaurant here in Albuquerque. She practiced and studied yoga with numerous well-known teachers while working as Chef and Manager at Pura Vida Yoga Retreat Center in Costa Rica. Sharon integrates a variety of yoga styles into her Gentle Strength teaching, including Iyengar, Anusara, Astanga, Vinyasa and Restorative along with Pilates strength and core work, offering a rewarding practice that accommodates all levels of experience. Sharon is continually expanding her training and teaching repertoire with specialized workshops such as YogaFit®, Back Care Basics, and SilverSneakers® fitness and yoga. Through one-on-one coaching and creative classes, Sharon shares her knowledge and support with a practical and personalized approach.

      Lisa moved to New Mexico from California in June of 2016. She has been practicing yoga since 1998 and teaching since 1999 and enjoys sharing her passion for this beautiful, transformative, and sometimes confrontational path. For thirteen years she taught at CSUSB, and at Crafton Hills College, where she also taught Eastern Religion. Lisa now teaches kindergarten at a charter school as well as teaching yoga. When not teaching she can be found hiking with her mountain goat of a husband, walking dogs, or cooking up some funky new recipe in the kitchen..

      Sage came to yoga as an adult and was so suprised by the numerous benefits the practice has to offer. It dramatically changed not only her day-to-day physical carriage but also soothes negative emotions such as anxiety and restlessness while increasing feelings of calm, contentment, confidence, and well-being. Inspired by her teachers Kim Schwartz, Zoreh Afsarzadeh, and Avery Kalapa, she focuses in her classes on developing body awareness and literacy, allowing for organization and maximization of vital breath.

      She recently completed High Desert Yoga’s 200-hour Teacher Training program and holds certifications in Prenatal Yoga and Trauma-Informed Yoga for Youth. She’s continuing to pursue trainings in Senior Yoga as well.
      Sage is also a singer and ukulele player, and shares a home with a plethora of pets, plants, poultry, and a few of her favorite humans.

      Jo is certified through the Yoga Institute of Miami. She holds certificates of completion with Rodney Yee, Joan White, David Swenson, and John Friend. She is also certified to teach pre-natal yoga and restorative yoga.



      She concentrates her study on Iyengar yoga, however, she also includes modifications and/or assists from Anusara yoga and Patabi Jois Ashtanga yoga. Her main teachers are Kevin Gardner, Patricia Walden, Bobbi Golden, Dean Lerner, Dr. Edwin Bryant and Rodney Yee.

      Herb established Wellspring Yoga in 1985 and while he has stepped down as the owner he continues to teach regularly at Wellspring. He is a graduate of the Igenyar Yoga Institute and has studied with Geeta and B.K.S. Iyengar in India and the United States.

      His emphasis is both enhancing health and well-being. He uses yoga as a tool for self-discovery and understanding. He encourages students to integrate the principles of yoga into daily life. Herb blends humor with insight to create a relaxed and challenging atmosphere.

    Learn postures, using props for support and to facilitate deep relaxation. Restorative yoga is meant to rejuvenate, replenish, bring the body back into balance and is the perfect cure for stress. Deceptively simple poses may be held for several minutes. All Levels are welcome.

      Over the past 15 years, Mikiala has found yoga to be the most powerful way to develop and maintain physical vitality, mental clarity and a joyful engagement with life. Searching for a way to deepen her own practice and a desire to share the many benefits of yoga with others, Mikiala completed the teacher-training program at YogaWorks and holds a professional certification with Yoga Alliance.


      Mikiala’s teachings are strongly influenced by those of B.K.S. Iyengar and Sri K. Pattabhi Jois’s Ashtanga yoga. Her yoga classes generally feature gentle flowing sequences, attention to alignment, and an appreciation for community and connection.
